Chart Talk {10.03.16}

Chart of the S&P 500 ETF, SPY.  You can double-click on the chart to make it larger.  The chart {but not its annotations-these are mine} is from  The S&P 500 gained a bit over 3.5% in the third quarter.  Note though that all of that gain came in the first two weeks of July.  If you panicked out of stocks during the "Brexit"swoon late in June then you probably missed out on the meat of the subsequent rally.

The rest of the quarter, especially during the summer months, was frankly noise in terms of this index.  Volatility did pick up after Labor Day and probability suggests that it will remain higher until our elections are sorted out.
