Categories: Game Plan {An Introduction}

Solas! is an attempt by Lumen Capital Management, LLC to give our clients & friends what we believe is an unprecedented amount of access to our thoughts and strategies. Simply put we want you to understand and feel comfortable with how we invest money for our clients. Therefore to the extent in which we are able, we want to pass on our current thinking about different things. These topics can include whats happening in the markets, our investment philosophy, topics on outside events that can effect stocks and whatever else may come our way.

I've come to the conclusion that it might make some sense to try and categorize these into different segments. I'm doing this partially with an eye on how I'd like Solas! to evolve over time and on an easier way for readers to compartmentalize different topics.

With that in mind today I'm introducing the first category which we'll title "Game plan". In Game plan you'll find articles on how we are tactically and strategically thinking about the markets. It is also a category for us to discuss some of the basic precepts that we employ when investing client's money. Game plan comes from two of my basic investment principles that I would demand if I was having somebody investment for me:
1. How are you going to invest my money.
2. What will you do if something goes wrong. How do you define what it means if something goes wrong and what are you going to do in the event something very wrong happens. We will be devoting a series to this very soon.
We will not be making specific recommendations about stocks or individual portfolios. Also we will be defining this in the broadest possible sense because our clients have different investment risk reward parameters. Where we discuss individual sectors it will be solely for you to get an idea of why we might be looking to invest in a particular sector or invest in a particular way. We may or may not post on the subject of sectors if and when our thinking changes. It should therefore never be construed as investment advice. We will make the appropriate disclosures if and when we discuss sectors.
With that in mind we recently posted our first Game plan article on energy. You can link to it here. http://lumencapital.blogspot.com/2008/10/energy.html. Periodically we may refer back to certain Game plan articles to see how we've done.
